AI Agent Glossary

Shared agent workspace

A work surface where human team members and AI agents hold, hand over and complete the same tasks, with ownership visible on each item.

A shared agent workspace is a single system of record for work that both people and agents act on. The defining property is that a task is one object regardless of who executes it: a colleague can create an item, an agent can pick it up, and a human can review the result without the task changing tools or identity. Items carry the people and agents that worked them, so the workspace can answer who is on what.

This is distinct from a team plan, which shares billing and seats but not work; from a shared prompt or workflow library, where colleagues share templates and still run them separately; and from a task tracker, which records work that people then execute elsewhere. The distinction matters because several agent products now share projects, files and instructions while keeping each person's runs private to them.

The term as defined here is TODO for AI's, not an industry standard. Microsoft's 2025 Work Trend Index describes the wider pattern it belongs to: human-agent teams, and a human-agent ratio that organisations have to manage.
