Agentic coding
A workflow in which the developer delegates whole tasks to a coding agent and reviews the result, rather than writing code with AI suggestions.
Agentic coding shifts the developer's job from typing to specifying and reviewing. The developer writes a task, the agent produces a pull request, and the developer reads the diff, runs it, and asks for changes. The productivity ceiling is higher than with autocomplete, but so is the review load: Faros telemetry found high-AI teams merge 98% more PRs that are 154% larger, and review time rose 91%. McKinsey's 2026 survey found 32% of organisations had decided against buying a software product because they could build it with agentic coding tools.
